Happy New Year!

All of us at Cancer Hope Network are very fortunate to have such a terrific bunch of volunteers who do our core offering – matching cancer survivors or their family members with those undergoing a cancer experience.  We couldn’t do it without you and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!  Here’s to a very Happy, Healthy and Peaceful 2012!

A researcher from the Department of Psychology at Yale University is focusing her research on promoting regualar exericse among breast cancer survivors.  She is looking to recruit 150 female breast cancer survivors of stage 0 – 3A, post treatment, who do not exercise regularly.   She is specifically interested in whether or not specially designed health messages can help breast cancer survivors increase their self-efficacy for overcoming the barriers to regular exercise.

Being treated for cancer can serve as one of the most trying times in a person’s life. However, having the right support can make the experience easier to bear.

Since 1981, Cancer Hope Network has been matching cancer patients with volunteers who have been through similar treatment experiences. Cancer Hope Network understands that speaking with someone who has gone through a similar experience can provide support that cancer patients can’t get anywhere else.

While cancer treatment is undeniably difficult for a patient, family members caring for patients suffer hardships as well. Cancer Hope Network recognizes the challenges that caregivers face, and provides support specifically for them. Caregivers can be matched with other caregivers, people whose loved ones have gone through cancer treatment, with whom they can discuss issues and ask questions that concern living with a loved one undergoing cancer treatment.

If you or someone you know needs support while caring for a loved one with cancer, request a phone call with a volunteer.

When dealing with cancer, as a patient or a caregiver, just a little bit of support can make all the difference.

For more information about getting in touch with a caregiver volunteer, visit www.cancerhopenetwork.org or call 1-800-552-4336.

Technology is supposed to make getting in touch with loved ones easier, right?
